The proliferation of MPEG-4 has vastly increased the capacity of satellite companies to carry local broadcast signals. Broadcasters can expect local-in-local multicast carriage from their satellite distributors within the next 2-3 years. Video-on-demand also offers a new distribution outlet for local content. ATV ensures that our clients create distribution agreements which impower these and other new opportunities.

Many broadcasters are looking at Open Mobile technology as a potential use of their digital spectrum. TiVo and other DVR technologies are opening up Internet content directly through the television receiver. Targeted television advertising is still in an early stage, but no longer just a futuristic application. Zone advertising and local content distribution to geographic cable/telco headends may give a broadcaster an advantage in delivering "neighborhood news."
